Exclusive Game Viewing on your own land
The 21ha stand concept at Mahlathini Private Game Reserve guarantees unmatched privacy and exclusivity with regard to the land you own. In many wildlife estates maximum stand size is 1ha and you are obliged to build your house within a specified radius of a predetermined peg on your stand and, even though you own the stand, other property owners have the right to traverse over your own land. This obviously diminishes one's privacy in the bush. On Mahlathini Private Game Reserve you can determine where on your stand you would like to site your home and private game viewing moments remain just that - private.

You can however go on your own game drive or mountain bike ride (with caution) on the main access road which loops around the entire reserve. Should you wish to expand the area over which you may want to traverse you can come to an arrangement with other landowners who may want to do the same.

Easy Access to the Kruger National Park
One of the most appealing features of Mahlathini Private Game Reserve is its proximity (15 minutes) to the central access gate into the Kruger National Park making day trips in the Kruger a real pleasure. The Mopane, Letaba, Olifants and Satara areas are all accessible and one can explore at least six ecozones in these regions. The ecozones are: Mopane/Bushwillow Woodlands (on granite), Sandveld, Mopane Shrubveld (on Basalt), Lebombo Mountain Bushveld (on Rhyolite), Olifants Rugged Veld (on Rhyolite/Basalt) and finally stunted Knob-thorn Savannah (on Basalt). Rivers are the lifeblood of the Kruger Park and from Phalaborwa gate one can experience the riparian habitats of two great rivers that flow across the kruger, namely, the Letaba River and the Olifants River.

In addition it is easy to participate in the full spectrum of South African National Parks operated activities such as open vehicle day and night drives, bush braais, guided walking and mountain bike trails and sleep-overs at the Sable Dam Hide. In 2009 a whole host of bush tracks have been opened up for public use by those with high clearance vehicles. This makes parts of the Kruger seem like your own private traversing domain because you hardly see another vehicle. The biggest adventure trail of them all - the route from the bush to the Mozambique beach via the Limpopo National Park - starts in Phalaborwa.

Easy Access to the East African Coast
Mahlathini Private Game Reserve is an ideal springboard for adventure trips to the East African coastline via the Giriyondo border post a short distance north of Letaba Camp. The Giriyondo Border Post between The Kruger National Park and the Limpopo National Park opened its doors to visitors for the first time on December 7th 2005 and has added a whole new dimension to African adventure travel. One can now drive from Phalaborwa Gate through the Kruger Park and into the neighbouring Limpopo National Park in Mozambique. From there the adventure route passes Massingir Dam, exits the Limpopo National Park and joins the EN1 on the East African coastline at Macia which is a short distance from Bilene and Xai-Xai. Overnight facilities are available in the LNP.

The Giriyondo Gate is 92 km (about a 2.5h drive) from Phlalaborwa gate and about 42 km north east of Letaba Camp. The gate is open from 08h00 to 16h00 in summer (1st August to 30th April) and 08h00 to 15h30 in winter (1st May to 31st July). Once across the border the distance to Massingir Gate is 70km (about 2 hours travel). Massingir Gate is near Massingir village at the northern end of Massingir dam. Massingir Gate is open from 06h00 to 18h00. When you exit the Massingir gate along the dam wall the distance to Massingir village is about 7km. The next stretch of the journey is from Massingir Village to Chokwe. At 136km this is the longest stretch and is on a bad tar road and takes about 90 minutes. The distance from Chokwe to Macia on the EN1 is about 53km.

From Macia one can go to either to Bilene or to Xai-Xai. The distance from Massingir gate to the coastal town of Xai Xai is about 270km.

Staying over in the Limpopo National Park
The Limpopo National Park has opened a new camp site called Campismo Aguia Pesqueira (Fish Eagle Camp) on a hillside overlooking Massingir dam.

There are 4 bush chalets for hire (clean and supplied with gas) and 10 campsites with ablution facilities built in a variation of the local Shangaan style. Bookings can be made with Heloise de Villiers in Nelspruit on 013-752 3314 or email limpopo@wol.co.za. Fees can also be paid at the LNP offices and at the Giriyondo border post.
