Golf Course

Challenging Fairways

Gowrie Farm golf course was officially opened in 2008. Ryan Botha, former South African No. 1 ranked top amateur described the PAR 70 nine hole parklands type golf course as “the finest 9-hole course” he has ever played upon and Peter Matkovich one of South Africa’s leading golf course architects, stated that “ Gowrie Farm is a tribute to real golf” . Others have described it as a treasure in the KZN Midlands.

Royal Dornoch (Scotland):
The course where Donald Ross, the father of American golf course design, was raised.

Merion (Philadelphia):
The course on which the great Bobby Jones successfully completed his grand slam.

Pinehurst No.2 (North Carolina):
The course that is heralded as Donald Ross' masterpiece and was the venue for the 2005 US Open.

The challenging fairways of Gowrie Farm golf course wrap around trout-filled dams, farm fields and bird-rich wetlands. The layout of the greens was moulded by the terrain where wild bunkers appear to have been formed by a natural weathering process. The fairways are kikuyu grass, the greens are bent grass and the rough is comprised predominantly of local indigenous grass species such as Rooigras (Themeda trianda).

More About

Gowrie Farm Golf Course

While the initial consent of the Development Facilitation Tribunal allowed for a 9 hole golf course the intention of the Developer has always been to increase the course to a full 18 holes. When this happens the number of ordinary members may be increased to 300. Along with the expansion of the golf course, a further 24 stands for estate homes will become available.

The stunning Gowrie Farm Golf Clubhouse Lodge has been built by the developer and includes a bar, half-way house, lounge, change-rooms, pro shop and 5 double bedrooms available on a Bed and Breakfast basis. The Clubhouse occupies a superb setting on the edge of one of the scenic fly-fishing dams and enjoys views over the golf course and estate farm.
